Before the Wall went up. Germany’s Best.

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

We were stationed
West part before
The sad division.
Krauts were relieved
Bombing had stopped
Adolph checked out
With Eva B.
At the bunker.
(We were told in
The rush for acreage.)
Anyways his parades had
Stopped and the excruciating speeches.

And that sexy gal
On the wireless no
Longer had her draining, drying drivel
Moans and groans.
Yanks, Brits, Frogs, Canucks
All over the place.
Russians leering from eastern quarters.
(Something stewing there.)
Damn that Yalta fiasco.
Winston knew.
He knew.
Uncle Joe was a buzzard
With treacherous beak.
And no conscience.
None.

When do we get to the Boat?
Or are we commissioned
Here long term?
Quarters are getting much better.
If so, great beer, purple cabbage
Blonde prospects
With hips and smiles, enticing.
Sausages of the best.
And the Swiss contribute their
Alpine horns.
Cheeses, chocolate, whispering banks.

Ah yes, heart of Europe
Post WW TWO.

While Austria sticks
To her waltzes
And beautiful blue
Watercourse.
As if nothing had
Ever been wrong.
And those vineyards
Bearing beautiful fruit.

Jeez, what if the swastika had
Swallowed it all?
Couple of times we
Really sweated it.
