The Death of a Narcissist

Laura Dotson 1964 (Pittsburgh, Pa)

When the narcissist died

He left behind the ones that he hurt. The souls of the few that he kicked in the dirt

When the narcissist died

He was not aware of the guilt and pain that still existed there.

When the narcissist died

The blame flew around like a fiery flame that uttered no sound.

When the narcissist died

The children were near, they clung to their mother in anxiety and fear.

When the narcissist died

He took them all with
As he fell to his death
Shattering his kin and his kith

When the narcissist died

Few came to his view
They cried tears of joy in secret, they knew.

When the narcissist died

It was apparent to all
That friends had he none
And none came to call.

When the narcissist died

He opened their eyes
As his were now closed
To all of his lies

When the narcissist died

The shadow retained
Taking years off the faces
Of those that remained.

About this poem

I struggled with the mourning of my late husband. It was a bitter sweet feeling.
