You Made Me More Like You

You slowly got into my head and broke me down, you broke down my values which you saw as flaws, you ripped down everything I stood for like old cover paper on a wall, all the little things I did that you found funny slowly grew into nuances. You had nothing to learn from me, but you saw me as incomplete, you felt like you just needed to fix me... I lost myself, scrambling to find remains of who I was as you slowly re-programmed me to think like you, to live like you and to love like you. You pushed me into a corner and forced me to take the path you provided, you made me believe that I was broken... yet you built me back in your image and I feel more broken than ever. I feel less of myself everyday the more I let you in. Your footpath of pain has reached the deepest neighborhoods of my soul. I struggle to keep together the parts of me that you sowed back after you were done. I struggle to recognise the hands I look down on when I wake up, I no longer know myself, I no longer feel human. But it is ok.

Because now, I am more like you

About this poem

This poem I hold close to my heart, it was something I wrote when I was having a tough time with a friend of mine who in turn was going through something. And what she was going through changed her and in turn it was changing me, unfortunately bot for the better. I found myself distancing from all my other friends because of her as I was afraid to leave her alone with what she was going through. After a while it just got to a point where I was people pleasing her and I lost count of what made me, me.

IfBatManWasHappy

I am not exactly a poet or gifted in the English language as a matter of fact. I think this is reflected in the lack of “authentic poetry styles” I can write in. I just enjoy writing spoken word-Ish structureless paragraphs hahaha, and I hope you can enjoy them too :). more…
