Setting Sun

The days and nights run together
It seems
I have lost count
Of all of my dreams
That were supposed to come true
Because of you
But I'm left with just
This unevenness
That you can't undo
For a moment on some nights
Our conversations play
Over and over
Like a banging drum
That is constant
But it's okay to me
Because I don't mind
Hearing your voice
Time after time
I watch the sunset with the hopes that you
Are under the same sky
Watching it, too
And my heart skips that familiar beat
When I feel the heat
Of your fingertips on my skin
But it's just the wind
And the darkness of the night
Pulls me in
And reminds me
You are not here
I am not there
A little tear
Falls from my eye
And I try
To compromise with the night
But it's useless
And all I can do
Is watch the sun set
While my hopes and dreams
Set with it, too.
