Analysis of Thundering
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
Quandary.
Thoughts in all directions.
My memory is failing me.
Did I hear it thundering?
The question echoes
In my mind
As I listen to the soft
Pleuvisaud of the rain on my roof.
I believe it's playing Mozart.
The sound is calming,
Almost soothing,
But the rumble of thunder
Is nowhere to be heard.
And still,
Something in the air
Tells me that a storm
Is brewing,
That a tempest is on its way.
Did I hear myself breakdown?
My heart skips a beat
As the thought crosses my mind.
It's a question
I've asked myself
Many times before,
But the answer remains
Elusive.
A part of me
Wants to believe
That all is well,
That nothing has been shattered
Beyond repair.
But another part of me knows
That the truth
Is far more complicated than that.
I can't quite remember
What brought me to this state..
It's strange, really,
How life has a way
Of leading us down
Unexpected paths.
One moment we're walking in one direction,
And the next,
We find ourselves
On a completely different road.
Sometimes,
It feels like we're exactly
Where we're meant to be.
As I sit here,
Listening to the rain,
I realize that the answers
To my questions
May never come.
Maybe that's okay.
Maybe all I can do is trust
That the storm will pass,
That my heart will mend,
And that the path I'm on
Will lead me
To where I'm supposed to go.
So, did I hear it thundering?
Maybe so.
Maybe not.
Quandary.
Thoughts in all directions.
But that doesn't mean
The skies won't clear,
That the sun won't shine again.
