Analysis of The Factory Of Apathy

America,
Nation of liberty.
Where dreams come true,
For us all,
Or so we've heard.
A place of endless possibilities,
And opportunities
With ease.

But, beneath that shining facade,
Lies a truth that's hard to applaud.
Apathy,
A flaw in the system,
Running rampant,
Like an epidemic.

We've got everything we could want,
But we're too caught up
In our own hunt.
Selfishness,
The norm of the day,
Ignoring the world,
as if it'll just vanish,
Like vapor.

We've become a factory for apathy,
Manufacturing disinterest,
With no empathy.
We fight for ourselves,
And forget the rest,
As we watch our society
spiral into disrepair.

America,
You are wonderful no doubt,
Yet, you carry a burden,
We cannot openly disregard.
Apathy may be rampant,
But hope still exists,
For a better future,
One that we can join.

America,
Can we rise
Above our selfish desires,
And strive
To set the world on fire?
Can we reignite
Our passion for humanity,
And defeat
The factory of apathy?

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
