Broken Parts

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

If my affection was put to the trial,
Would you hold onto me?
Words alone can't suffice,
To make our union a nirvana.

Can your actions
Speak louder still,
And show me
That your devotion is certain?
Even in the absence
Of those words,
Can we adore
What we've disintered?

If my heart
Was broken in two,
Or into thousands,
Would your tenderness
Offer me something new?
To glue back the broken parts,
And make our love
A work of artistry?

So, if you ever wonder,
What would happen if we fault?
Actions speak pure,
In love,
Faith,
And all we do.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
