Jacques Tahureau was born in Mans to a magistrate father Jacques Tahureau, who had for third-grandfather Anne Du Guesclin, sister of the Constable of France and a mother from the nobility of Poitou, Marie Tiercelin de la Roche du Maine. After studying literature, a stay in Italy and a few feats of arms as a squire and then a knight, he began to compose love verses for a beautiful woman named L'Admirée.
