The Largest Organ

And the comparison of coal is not what they want to hear
But under pressure they grow stronger
And would you have thought they would be this valuable?
You knew nothing but comparisons to soot and the ground you walk on
But diamonds they were
Like the universe velvet and endlessly deep
As entrancing as the night sky

Hated complexion by many
This skin is not yours so why do you hate it
Not yours, not anyone else's
How fast, the change from boy to man was
Not even a teen yet already labeled a man
Is this the weight skin carries?

Is destiny forever destined to further growth
Will it always make me mature
Will childhood be laid to waste because of pigment
Melanated complexion, in your eyes an adult
Belonging to everyone but myself
Owing all an explanation
