Gossamer, a Falcon and a Story to Tell

“I went to Devil’s Leap Gorge in actuality, but only dreamt of visiting Gossamer Falls.”

Gossamer is my favourite place on Planet Earth
I recall my camp beside the pool at Devil’s Leap:
It’s a wonderful peaceful place beneath the msasa trees
What scientists call Miombo Woodland
That runs the length of the ridge

Recovering from the climb up from Eastern Lakes yesterday
And almost without realising it
Thinking how precious it is to get some alone time in this busy world

Cape buffalo: A rare meeting.
People don’t expect to see big game in the hills
But in these lower reaches
You can stumble upon a pride of nature.
Alone, and yet –
Wish there was someone with me to share the sighting

The same goes for a falcon
Flying like an airborne pen
Drawing its story on the cliffs of Devil’s Leap
