Walking on the Sahara
The angry sun beats upon my brow,
My bare shoulders carry the weight
Invisible to any watching eye,
As I cross the ruling desert
Intent on not letting me through.
The ferocious sand is hungry,
Gnawing on my cracked feet
As I journey, it pulls the energy
From me, steadily banishing me
From my path, my existence.
And still I stop not,
Unaffected by the hindrances,
The tearful delusions choking
My aching mind, my soul that
Begs me further forward, onward now.
Venture, continue, remember,
Replies my heart , beating
Out the harshness of the sun,
Stabbing out the throbbing pain
That I so unwillingly caress.
And then, at last,
At last I am across
Open to the oceans full of life
Which steal me away from the vastness,
The expanse far, far behind me.
