Thoughts of Rural Oregon Muskmelons,(Cantelopes)

A muskmelon is a wonderous thing,
the meat is orange, the rind is green.
It has some seeds, but nary a bone,
It's best eaten in company, and never alone.
Some eat it warm, but it's better cold.
It tastes best if stolen,if I'm so bold.
Old Man Scoubo gave the culls away,
It had to do with pride,(they sell them today).
They were ten for a dollar when I was a kid.
That is if you bought them,(my folks sometimes did.)
These days I wait till there's a sale on.
It's almost like stealing,(a point I must dwell on.)
I'll quit now,it's turning to rambles.
Oh! I almost forgot, there's also no brambles.
