Spring In Summer

What could be fairer than summer?
So off I bumbled among the flowers
And bees and birds and trees.
The familiar perfection of nature, quite pleasant
Though somewhat unspicy. That is,
Till I carelessly stepped from the forest primeval,

And there was a six-story building,
A delicate latticework, rising before me,
A summer scene’s fitting companion,
The human in nature. A skyscraper jr.!
An upspringing, unfinished beauty
Plus promise of even more beauty to come,

Incomplete yet completing. Delightful!
For what could be fairer in summer than spring?
