Long Distance

Map-measured miles run away
To you, clattering like trains
With their further-and-further-and,
At a speed I imagine as a shriek.
The sound dies with distance
Until it becomes a lonely murmur
As the air swallows it.
Silence. Snaps my accelerating thoughts
Back into my head: solitary confinement
After roaming free, I feel like a pin-point
In an infinite atlas. Eternity
Stretches away into obscurity.
I can only picture you in a fuzzy far-off,
Where your face is featureless, as if
Distance has stolen your definition
Along with your presence.
