Jasmine Rice

Wafting in the early afternoon air, like
The music of her youth (playing on the radio),
The aroma brought back memories of childhood,
Making her eyes misty, but her heart full.
"I love that aroma ever since I was a
Little girl," she told me.
The price is double the regular Calrose, but
The flavor is prize enough to forget that
The difference in dollars and cents would have
Sufficed for a hearty order of chicken adobo at
Bibingkahan, or fried chicken dinner meal at Vons.
The thought of the perfect viand
To complement "this ne'er ere cooked rice"
In her kitchen made her tarry there...
Playing solitaire.
And--sotanghon (with pork and shrimp) it was!
And--Ace, my beloved bichon frise, never
Had a serving of rice--tastier.
