I remember

I remember when you were the biggest hero in my life
Crazy how some years and a couple fights can make you switch roles
We are always at wits ends like a murderers knife
The pain we cause burns in our hearts like white-hot coals
What happened to the days where we'd ride bikes together?
What happened to the ways we used to treat each other?
I remember you told me I could be anything I wanted to be
Now we stuck in a place with you screaming at me for my hypocrisy
I screw up; I know you know this fact
I can't help how I feel sometimes, or how I act
All I want, is for our relationship to stay intact

We used to be all we had, and now we're not even what we want anymore
I remember when we were excited to see what the future had in store
For us, for you and I
From the day you brought me here, til' the day that you'd die
And every precious moment in between that passed with every sigh
From the PB & J's to the timeout hours
From the camping trips, to the baby showers
I know you love me with all your heart
And it shows in all that you do
In your tenacity to never give up from the start
In your resilience to push through
I know I've given you long days and even longer nights
I know I keep starting this stupid sh*t and I don't try to end these fights
But I love you
I really do

Honest to God, even though you lost hope in Him
Before you lost hope in me
I'm just trying to figure out who I am; who I need to be
To make it in this crazy world we live in, I just need to be me
And you need to let me do this; please mom set me free!
Just trust that you've done a good job with me
Because you have, you did the best that anyone could

I know I've given you more than I could handle
But that's nothing to you
You're the strongest person I know
Due to the all the pain that you bestow
You've always been able to separate my lies from the true
And when life had me thrown on my back
I could always look for a helping hand from you

I know our relationship is in shards
And we are both too weary to gather up the ashes
But it is as fragile as a house of cards
And it would be destroyed by the smallest of bashes
Lets pick up the pieces and start back at a time that we once knew
A time of joy, trust, and love
A time where it was like the heavens up above

A time of only me, and only you.
