Freshman Folly

Every rope abbreviates what I couldn’t emulate
What an innovation the smugness foretells
That alacrity of a boy who dreams with dampening joys
The snickering girl’s caution
But your promises prove
It’s therapeutic to keep me rapped around your finger
Even wrestling the sun rays
I find there isn’t enough light to brighten up the chalkboard
Where like a child I scribble
At ease with easy cancellation
No permanence to block my direction
But no commitment to bring forth my solution
Worrying in wonder
Have the snuffles reached my doorstep
Seconds to freshen up
With sleeves that don’t cover much
