Flash-Forward To The Present
Rapid deceleration adds a headache to my blurry vision.
A premonition hanging over me – a train wreck.
Oh, did I fail to mention, that this metal prison,
is where our depressions get the best of us,
invest in us, testing us?
And all I can do is ride on,
stride on and warn the others, my brothers
that their escape is in the wake of a mistake they've already made…
For no one can hear me through this plated glass,
and by the time they're inside, it's already too late, I guess.
The gates lock behind them,
the car begins to fill with water,
when the bridge below us topples,
and we're left floating like a bobber.
But we've been filled with lead
and soon the sinking feeling begins,
but the expected feeling of dread stays at bay
as our life flashes before our eyes,
year by year, day by day.
It's only a blink, but it's enough time to think
that we've served our purpose on this earth.
And that “lead” is only a reflection of our self-worth.
Heavy with regret we no longer are,
as we ascend the rustic stairway to the great beyond
and when they unearth our bodies
from the bottom of this pond
they'll know,
we're finally home, and not long gone.
