Care

I heard her step on the stairs.
She was sad, quiet, sullen,
Whishing not to be heard.
I knew all of this by her sound, yes.
I had spent my time learning her,
Growing attached to her.
I only hoped I could talk her down tonight.
I loved her like a sister,
I only wanted to protect her.
I had hidden her blades before,
Talked her down even more.
But today she came into my room,
Hugged me and talked it through.
I held her close and listened
Without a single word.
She told me of her problems and fears.
She showed me the scars that her long sleeves hid,
And we erased them with our love.
I am so glad that now I know what a smile
And a listening ear can do.
