the fall

I felt the seasons change today
Even before I woke up I knew
Summer was over and so was me and you.
When I reached for a blanket instead of your body, the chill at my feet brought me to my knees.
The seasons changed and we did too
Underneath the days and between the short nights, somewhere in the world a leaf gave way to gravity.
And we took our fall
