Dreams and memories keep me from sleeping at night

Jumped to his aid tried to keep us safe
Just knew something’s not right
Dreams and memories keep me from sleeping at night
Shots sound too close whiz past my cheek
Tears of fear hidden begin to leak
Grabbed my street brother but he was already gone
Already knowing that another brothers gone
A rage comes over me as darkness in the night sky
I just keep fighting and running not able to cry
To many caskets keep me from shedding any tears
Sirens growing closer confirming my fears
Hunched down all this over colors
Seeing my brothers rolled away on a bloody bed
All the sound around me is silent
Lost another to gun smoke, knife and club
Waiting in suspense for the coming night
God says two wrongs don't make a right
Vengeance is mine is why I must fight
We make our own laws so wont get the police involved
All this violence just for a cause
No sign of emotion blank look on a face
No real reason for what we do
Hidden in the bushes waiting to leap into battle
Sounds of guns ring out like a babys rattle
No waiting for the smoke to clear to see who's still here
Anger is replaced by fear as the fight continues
So confused to fight or flight
Whos next one of them or maybe even you
No tears at the grave side just prayers falling upon deaf ears
Still fighting these nightmares after all these years
