in search of a victim

in search of a victim
in search of a fool
you can always find me
when you follow this rule
find me at home
find me at work
and blame me for something
you went berserk

I’m everybody’s grief
everybody’s pain
I’m everybody’s sorrow
once and once again
I’m everybody’s lad
everybody’s chap
I’m used to be
everybody’s stopgap

there is always someone
who must feel and suffer
from somebody’s failure
in search of a buffer
just pick someone
who will have to take the blame
and upset the crowd
by mentioning his name

they will know, who it is
they will declare and say
“ah, it’s him once again
we thought it anyway”
then they will stop and stare
make him think and see
that he is someone to despise
and someone to find guilty

they say “what doesn’t kill you
that makes you rougher”
I ain’t that sure
I wish I were much tougher
in search of a victim
in search of a fool
you know how to find me
I already told you rule

your world may ruin me
and do me in one day
in search of yourself
you will find the words one day and say
“I was dirty and mean
I was mad as a hatter
I have attacked people
who never were the matter”
