Adieu

Eneida Mendez 1948 (Lares)

Standing at the shore
the sea before her
She stared ahead
out to the deep dark water

Far into the distance
her thoughts were
where might
her love be?

And then,
without blinking
he appeared aboard a sailing ship
far from her reach

His eyes seemed
to hold her near
Or was it her imagination?
As the moonlit faded

She became conscious
to the reality
that his departure
was of no return
