Volsung Saga

David Lopez Zayas 1969 (Vista Alegre)

VOLSUNG SAGA

Fafnir the Dragon,
Old and Cruel Serpent,
Devoured the deer,
In the Forest of Odin.

Sigurd the Viking,
With arms that were strong,
Boiled the leaf,
Of the flowery tree.

Odin gave the sword,
To the fierce Volsung,
Whom to the graceful victim,
Ran with speed and resolve.

The sharp point,
Of the fearsome fang,
Bit and slew,
The warrior of God.

The bloody bite,
The blade broke,
Leaving the weapon,
Without use or worth.

Where is my craft?
Sigmund was asked,
And for not paying the debt,
Sigurd's son lay dead.

I want my hero,
To no other I myself give,
From Signy was heard the voice,
And without tear into Sigmund's funeral fire she jumped.
