Peace Finds Me
Jessie Jones 1984 (Independence)
The clouds drift and sail overhead
As if there's never been such a thing as rough waters
The sun shines in a way that seems timeless
As if it has no where it needs to be
No looming commitments. No obligatory destination
No schedule to keep
No clock counting down nor up
Eternity could be now, never. It just doesn't matter
The wind whispers like a ghost
It's heard, so faintly, I question it's existence
It's not seen. It's not felt. Not at first
I close my eyes. I'm searching
I know it's coming
There it is, nudging me, a gentle push
As if the entire universe is saying wait...
Now
Eyes opening, I'm transported
To this familiar place, time, feeling
I'm not sure which. All of the above I suppose
I'm there. Lying on my back atop a hay bale
Sitting barefoot, legs swinging off the dock
Perched on a branch in an old tree
Standing on the fence gazing over the hills
A little front porch sitting rocking in a chair
A bird's eye view from the roof top
I'm there. Proving once again it can be anywhere
It's everywhere
Flooded with memories
The kind that make you smile as a tear rolls away from you
The kind that take their time, linger as you soak them in
And it's there, in that moment
With the clouds floating, the sun shinning, the wind humming
That you know peace
Just like you know a loved one gone too soon
Like you know yourself once again
Realizing neither are lost forever
Smiling, knowing everything you know
Having gone through everything you've gone through
It doesn't matter, that place is still there
And you just breathe it in
Capturing every flicker of beauty in front of you
Within you
Filing it away in hopes that it carries you through
Until next time
