"Manushi" (Human)

Asaduzzaman 1985 (Bangladesh)

it's been a long time since
I wrote about you.
Just like that auspicious day of Pujo
when I saw you.
I went from afar for Pujo's darshan, Suddenly my eyes fell on your eyes.

What crossed my mind,
 I don't know,
You spoke with a compassionate tone,
my Niranjana.
You said in a gentle voice,
do I reside in your heart,
 In the Bengali sir's lecture,
you spoke in secrecy.

Within a few days,
 everyone knows,
Gossiping in the common room about me. Everyone says you're in love with Kabir, I sat alone,
feeling embarrassed.

In the college for a few days,
You were only seen in knowledge.
At the end of the day,
 thinking about you,
Many played games with me,
 just for fun.

Let no one know about me,
 just the name,
Through your love,
I gained so much fame.
Girls desire to see Kabir,
 People say,
in his heart,
the image of Manush is carved.

A few days later,
my love faced obstacles,
Didn't achieve completeness;
love remained incomplete.
I used to think of you morning,
noon, and night,
How are you today,
leaving me alone?

Leaving behind a thousand memories,
You forgot me,
 embracing the sea of sorrow.
With empty eyes,
I used to see everyone,
 How are you,
my beloved,
staying alone?

How many promises you made,
Taking your mother Durga,
You've overcome a thousand obstacles, will you marry me?
Durga comes every year on such a day,
But you,
filled with my love's debt.

You were a Brahmin,
and I a Muslim,
So you've maintained
the honor of our love.
Even today,
this college is imparting knowledge,
I didn't get your response,
the gift of my love.

So many had pride in you
Only my life got lost.
You left, my love,
leaving a hundred million memories, Taking away the essence of Hindu-Muslim love.
