LET ME SLEEP

mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)

Why won't these dreams let me sleep at night
? What in the real world do they care for me to see, and why won't they let me sleep? I see more than enough during the day. What is it that I must see during these god-awful hours? Bring me a drink and flowers, and like old friends, we may shoot the shit.

There comes a time in a man's life when he must stop and look around without making any sound, not looking behind or ahead, not hanging on words that went unsaid.

Let me sleep. I'm getting old. Let me sleep because, inside these dreams of other little dreams, there is a story to be told. I see myself as a young child, so I take my hand to lead the way. Not all memories are meant to stay.

Let me dance. I have two left feet
let me sleep, for I want to dream a thousand dreams, and I have many more to meet
let me sleep let me eat the reality of the day
