Cheers and Deception

For a tiny moment
I was overwhelmed
by their thunderous cheers
Their warm arms that brought comfort
And their echoes of praises

They said I had arrived
And threw flower petals unto my stage
Mothers raised their babies in the air
The fathers jumped widely in joy
The little kids were not left out

Kings prostrated in greeting
Elders bidded to sit with me in gatherings
And great men gathered at my table
Each wanted a piece of me
Even when I had none left to myself

I was thrilled at the thought of the spotlight
And the beauty of being everyone's favorite
Of being loved and even better, wanted
By all these great men and women
This gave me the chills

Then I thought of this as a facade
Aimed at bringing me ruin
The ruin that came with settling
And letting go of all that dream
Even while still at the shallow waters

Then I shook my head and said to myself
This is not the end
It is too superficial to be it
Imagine fishing in shallow waters
When I could dive into the deeper ocean

So I dusted my shoes and pressed forward
On a journey filled with uncertainty
Stepping briskly and confidently
A loud word ringing in my ear
It murmurs 'never settle'"
