Happy

Jason Bragus 2006 (UK)

It occurs to me as we share thoughts, as you speak your mind so free,
I have never given much to the thought of what makes me so glee,
What we did and do today, where we go from here and now,
You asked what you could do to please me, and I cannot answer how.

My feelings euphoric today no doubt, but I'm afraid I have to probe,
There is no part of my happy life that I can call my own,
I smile with you and dance when you dance, sing when you open your heart,
But my soul or yours I bear to the world, I cannot tell apart,

To have a moment so intense, intimate and absolute,
It means to you the world it seems, to me, I haven't a clue,
Do I feel comfort when with you? Safe in your embrace?
I fear I live a lie, my love, to look upon your face,

Your face so real, a smile so free, it fills me full of guilt,
That what we have, my happiness cannot be fulfilled,
The time will come when I will know what I want and when,
For now, I wish to rest in peace, my wake; I'll see you then.

About this poem

I wrote this after my longterm partner asked me what makes me happy and I didn't know how to answer, so I wrote this.
