Society's hands

So many voices, so many hands, so many opinions from the way I stand to the way I speak, their judgement pressures until my soul is weak, though the scars on my skin feign resilience, the bars on my brain refuse to go away. 7 hands in my way with 7 plans of their own, 7 words on my mind "please, just leave me the f*ck alone"

Still my lips stay closed, a hand rests on my face as my eyes stay closed, another reaches for my cage still the door stays closed.

It's all that I know so please don't try to change it, every time you break a lock I will replace it. A self fulfilling curse, a want to escape overridden by a fear of the unknown. The pressures of society, over any want of my own

About this poem

A poem written off the inspiration of my girlfriends sketch. I tried to take a mix of creative freedom and personal experience to write about the lack of freedom in our own minds. How easy it is to stay locked in your cage no matter how many hands reach out.
