How do I look?
—You are so beautiful—
my fingers are unraveling, being pulled up from the thinnest hangnail of my index
—I love your nails —
each nail rising from its bed, ripped from under by with a jagged root
I can feel each vessel in my face expand my eyes are being crushed by the pressure
my hands rush to hover under my face, I felt as if I needed to catch them. them being my eyes that I thought were going to fall out of their seats.
almost
—your eyes are so beautiful—
my neck, being pulled from the base.
A memory of holding my niece on my shoulders rushed to my mind
the pressure, the weight pushing my collarbones down away from my head
my nieces hands grabbing my chin for support, pulling my neck longer. the weight didn’t bother me, she was weaker than this
the nostalgic pressure would begin to feel like a rip, each disk in my neck would expand, as did the tendons stabilizing my head I felt them stretch and string, nearing a tear
as my neck lengthened as did my spine, my ribs were squeezing together, each crack muffled by the rubbery screeches of my head bursting
—You’re so tall, it suits you—
my knees were fusing straight, each ligament violently shredding my calves, they felt liquid for a moment, before quickly ripping back into rigid straightness
my bones did not resist the reformation, but my flesh would grind, it would belt and scream, the strings connected to my bone moved further from their homes, snapping back to the nearest familiar joint
They would each make a loud clap one by one, snapping like a rubber band back to my hip, each into balls of muscle
my hands completely have unraveled
my bones were opened, exposed to the elements, they eroded, cracked
My beauty would flower
I couldn’t see them anymore, before I knew it I felt my eyes resting in my palms, they were no longer spherical but gave a feeling of unsettling liquidity
they were crushed and evicted from their sockets
I could vaguely understand the shape of my face
my lower jaw searched for its partner but whenever it went to bite, it would be met with bark, a stem.
i reached my hands to my face, a phantom sensation
my hands were locked , immovable.
I could sense it, each petal, as they each fluttered slightly in the wind, I could feel its pigment, a pink pretty tulip.
I guessed as much, my face was something similar.
How do I look?
—You’re beyond gorgeous—
I wish I could smile, I’d never been so happy
I’d finally lived
with a branch growing out of my heart, I was finally beautiful
My throat seems to be replaced, I wish I could ask again just one more time
with my new growth I’d like to ask again
remind me- How do I look?
