Touched by an Angel

Sensing her way through the busy room
Seeking comfort where the spirit breathes
Transcending time and place
Reaching out, touching
Perceiving, penetrating souls
Beaming with incomparable innocence
Wandering, wondering
Locking on to willing hearts
Bright eyes smiling
Drinking deep of the unsuspecting
Like a butterfly
Sipping the essence of each waiting flower
Then off to discover her next encounter.

Silence speaks volumes in Mary’s world
Momentary interludes with this special child
Simply beg acceptance.
This stainless, precious being
Seeking solace in an imperfect world
Delighting herself
By unearthing kindred spirits.

About this poem

I met little Mary when she was about 7 years old. We were part of a gathering in someone's home. As I sat quietly in the crowded room, she kept coming up to me, smiling, asking to sit on my lap, then darting off. I felt such a profound connection with her, I needed to write it all down.

One of our neighbors had 3 daughters that I pretty much grew up with. The last one of the girls was special needs. When we were older, and the oldest daughter got married. The youngest kept coming to me to dance every time the band played at the reception. It made me feel like a king.

moments like these cannot be unfelt while the law of attraction manifests itself... I've had two other similar experiences that I should probably put into words as well...

Beautifully written. I can see the child flitting to and from you like a butterfly. The title says it all I think! Brava.

This poem 'Touched by an Angel' is truly captivating and beautifully written. The imagery and emotions evoked through the words are powerful and touching. The portrayal of the special child, Mary, and her ability to connect with others on a deep level is heartwarming. The use of metaphors such as comparing her to a butterfly sipping the essence of each waiting flower adds even more depth to the poem.

One suggestion for improvement could be to expand on Mary's character and her interactions with others. Perhaps sharing specific encounters or moments that showcase her impact on people's lives would make the poem even more impactful and memorable. Overall, this poem is a wonderful tribute to the beauty of innocence and compassion in a world that can often feel imperfect. Great job!
