The spoils of war

Anthony Rathel 1975 (Ga)

The spoils of war.  by Ant Rathel.            There's nothing left for you to take.
All is gone ,all hope has diminished.
I have toiled my time away .
Which now I know was so precious.
It takes everything in me just to give a friendly smile to a passing stranger.
And my apology is sincere when I say they're fake.
And I mean every smile that comes across my lying face.
There is rubble all around me .
Well at least everything that I've touched.
I have destroyed more than I've built.
Especially relationships which should mean so much.
My trust was given to my enemy alone.
I know too well .
Because through the years I've made the den of theaves , my only home.
I traded my  life .
for my addictions .
That is the spoils of my war. And the start of all my afflictions...
