Oh! Virginia

Virginia at Meson Ole

By Atyathoabe Osakpa

Oh! Virginia
As I look at your face
Framed by the Meson Ole Pond
Bedecked by gliding ducks
And over-flying sea gulls
I feel mesmerized by the
Tranquility of your personality
That mocks the tranquil pond

Oh! Virginia
In an atmosphere abuzz
With a chattering crowd and
Clanging dining utensils
Against the background of
Other natural distracting elements
All I hear is your heart and mine
Pumping life--resuscitating love

Oh! Virginia
Though I am sitting across
The dining table away from you
Yet I can sense the aroma
Of every inch of your being
The sparkling spring shooting up
From the pond is but a poor
Imitation of your exquisite self

Oh! Virginia
As you go to bed tonight
And as you unwind and relax
From the day's engagements
Know that while my mind was at work
My heart was absorbed
With the thought of what
You have made life become to me

About this poem

I was on a date with a lady called Virginia, at a Restaurant called Meson Ole. While we were sitting at the table waiting to be served, I was inspired to write a poem dedicated to her; hence the title of the poem, Virginia at Meson Ole.
