Her Never After

In possenssion of the Devil's pen; I've crafted sonnets within the lion's den. I've written "happy never after" after every single verse—verses written in the night, lyrics scoffing at the light: happy never after.

Her whole mind, hell confined, tears to kiss; I'm her kind. Leave her blind; she will worship the bliss: happy never after.

Fuel the flame; such a sin. Ink of blood from her skin, she fell away as the morning grew black: happy never after.

We made heat of the pain, I set fire to her shame. Bound and tired, she cursed my name: happy never after.

There was fear in her eyes when I showed her all my lies and all the hurt. Alas, her soul died: happy never after.

Paid her angels with a dime; now I'm master of her time. She is bound to the memories of me; she is bound to the nightmares of me.

Now I'm happy ever after.

About this poem

"Her Never After" is a paragraph styled narrative of a man's external expression of his wicked treatment of women in his relationships with them - marked by manipulation, pain, and a subversion of traditional fairy tale endings. The imagery used creates a vivid portrayal of a toxic connection, concluding with an unsettling twist in the narrator's perception of their own happiness. Unabashedly, the poem dances around the dark lust that often underscores BDSM practices and behaviors. The repeated phrase, "never after" is an expression of failed attempts for satisfaction, and the helpless situations such relationship dynamics often leave women when involving an abusive partner. A man's sick abuse of power in light of romance.
