Through the Looking Glass

She’s never finished.
She’s never done.
Tears ,cries, and alarms,
She asks for help, and no one hears it,
Dishes, laundry, and dinner.
Wiping ,washing, and cleaning,
Don’t forget work!
Keys, purse, phone,
She can’t be late for work.
Her twenty minute coffee is her only salvation.
Looking through the mirror she sees.
New wrinkles, new creases, and new grey hair.
She looks back and remembers a girl,
Full of hope, dreams, and passion.
Did she forget?
A dream simply deferred ?
Or  simply a dream changed?
Looking through the mirror she sees,
The little girl always wanted to be a wife and a mom.
Did she see the big house and white picket fence?
Would she trade this dream for a different one?
She finishes her coffee and sees,
Time and dreams change and that's okay.
Off in the distance she hears,
The pitter patter of tiny feet approaching.

Really enjoyed this piece. Life can be so overwhelmingly busy at times that you almost don’t have time for yourself (that’s not necessarily a complaint). Thank God for that 20 minute coffee break!

Loved the ‘pitter patter’ ending …
