Wine-Stained Loyalties

I set fire to the world
Then cried for the ashes

Burned with the embers
Bled through the gashes

Their absence in my heart
Like the daggers they would throw

Ivy of the family tree
Strangling as it grows

You wont see it coming
Slithering in your wake

Claws and fangs and poison love
Smiles and laughs all fake

Compliments infront of you
Oaths of loyalty they swear

Backstabbers with their wines in hand
And clinking silverware

Blood is thicker than water
Everyone likes to know

But blood of the covenant is thicker, in truth,
Than water of the womb

About this poem

This poem was written in a state of feeling betrayed by people who were previously close to my heart and whom I considered family. I have also wanted to write something that gave off a fantasy vibe and I took this opportunity to do so.
