No Longer Me

Rosie Lee 1964 (Scotland)

Why did you steal me?
Why sweep me away with promises?
   With vacuous words, without intent?
   Deeds designed to fool.
   What's your achievement ?
   Your end-game?
   Where can it possibly lead?
   Surely you know the deceit.
The man I see isn't real
Both an illusion, and a desire
   There is no achievement,
   It's not you.
   It's no longer me.

About this poem

This is about the effect of misrepresented intent, and about the damage it does. The effect of those who see a free spirit as something to be tamed. How each toxic person takes a little piece of us, yet what we fall in love with isn't real.
