Here I am again

Every street I turn to is packed.
Every spring chicken has painful story to tell.
Who cares to lend them an ear?
Perhaps no wonder they conceal their pain through grin.

At some point their hearts were crushed, broken.
They drink to escape reality.
At some point a relative endeavored to force himself to them
What did the mother say?

All was rather kept under wraps.
Is this how it supposed to be?
Every spring chicken carries a bleeding heart.
Combat to keep their hope up, poverty fights for the opposite.

I witness previous generation appears annihilated.
What is more painful?
This disease spread to the youth.
Education turns to be no key

Here I am again witnessing gender-based violence.
Here I am again witnessing discrimination in a country of liberty.
Here I am again, witness youth drown into drugs.

About this poem

A poem about township life, youth experiencing adversities. Combat to remain strong in spite of family challenges they go through, substance abuse & gender based violence.
