Let Go Of The Past

Being a child is tough
Growing up's not much fun,
Are our parents so blind
To the damage they've done?

To let go of the past
Can take many years
I've cried silent pain
Yet not shedding a tear

No scars to be seen
Nor pain heard in my voice,
I've forgiven the guilty
My only clear choice.

Forget, I can't do
It's from memories I learn,
Visions etched in my head
A slow steady burn.

I've survived and I've healed
All my thanks go to God,
I've learned to be happy
Breaking down the façade.

Without using my past
As a scapegoat today,
I first came to terms
With the role I had played.

About this poem

I wrote this poem in '97. A very difficult time in my life I had to hear both my parents take some responsibilities for my past, in order to have a future.
