The Spider

back in my room, there's a spider in a jar.
i don't have the heart to kill him,
cruelly.
but suffocation hardly seems
like the kinder option.
he should find himself lucky;
there are no glass walls
in death.

i hope
i wasn't the one
who taught him cruelty.

now in my room, there's a corpse.
there are limbs that won't ever
move again.

i hope
in his next life

i'll find a way to be kind to him.
