Tangled Webs

Sometimes we feel the need to say
A "half-truth" and it feels okay
If we can justify

A "white lie" just to help someone
From getting feelings hurt by one
Who will not make them cry!

We also "stretch the truth" to keep
Embarassment that can be deep
For those whose hope can stray.

And there are times we fib just about
Responsibility, no doubt in view
When duties come our way.
