From Heaven We Cannot Hide
Christian Branson 1976 (Florida)
I could sit here and try to lie,
I could tell you that we never cried.
But truth be told you’d know if so
Because, from heaven we cannot hide.
I prayed so much for months now,
On your behalf I cried to Him my pleas.
Knowing He was there listening to each,
I continually fell upon bruised knees.
I cried and I pleaded,
and I begged for you to know peace.
I asked Him to bring you home safely,
That the suffering would come to cease.
And while this wasn’t what I had in mind,
Or at all how I saw things being.
I trust that God answered every prayer,
As my faith has me now seeing.
I have to trust that what is now,
Is how it was meant to be.
That in calling you home so soon,
His loving embrace will set you free.
No more will you endure all the pain & suffering,
Nor can the devil ever try to derail.
An eternal life in the light of God’s love now given,
where darkness can never prevail.
Thus sadness and anger we should not express,
But rather love and joy instead.
Your life anew in God’s eternal loving embrace,
No more tears will you need to shed.
I wish I could say the same for us here,
But I won’t lie & tell you we haven’t cried.
For truth be told you’d know if so,
Because from heaven we cannot hide.
About this poem
I wrote this poem just now after getting word today that my sister is being removed from life support. She’s been in the ICU for about 3 months now and has been fighting every step of the way. For one reason or another, each stage of her battle to live was met with more and more challenges and though she truly put up a strong fight, it is evident that she’s been called home. This poem is like others I’ve written when losing a loved one. It is my farewell letter. I’m so going to miss her, but I know I’ll see her again some day. Until then, I’ll keep wiping away these tears of heartache and sadness until I can wipe those away that come from the love and joy of knowing she’s finally at peace in the loving arms of our Father. ❤️ more »
