"Defining My Worth"

When you can't ever call me, I'm not there,
Imagine me on Mars, where I now dwell,
Research calls, it's the cross that I bear,
Why is it so hard for you to tell?

Do you seek friendship or something more?
Don't wait for a text that will not come,
Years waiting, my heart feeling sore,
Realizing I am worth more than some.

No rescue in the night, I turned to light,
I refuse to be just a number, see,
God created me, such a wondrous sight,
I'll never settle for less, I decree.

I am nobody's wife, I am just free,
Allowing only genuine energy.

About this poem

This poem delves into the complexities of relationships and self-worth. The speaker reflects on being distant and unattainable, questioning why it is difficult for the other person to express their feelings. Despite feeling lonely and rejected, the speaker values themselves and refuses to settle for anything less than genuine connection. Emphasizing personal freedom and self-worth, the poem highlights the importance of embracing one's own worth and not settling for less in relationships.
