History Speaks

It was a land of vast spaces
And wide, open skies.
Tribes of that region could hear its
        sweet song.
When wanderers came from lands
        far away
They knew this land had great
        power.

The natives had rapport with this
        magical place
But the wanderers were hardly in
        tune.
They observed beings they did not
        comprehend
And the feeling was mutual, too.

These cultures could profit through
        teamwork and exchange
But for mystery, distrust and
       suspicion.
Wedges of hatred and rage were
       placed
Through a selfish malicious tradition.

Neither side spotted the cause well
       enough,
Neither side having the answer:
They fell prey to subtle instigation
From the third side which lived there
       amongst them.
