Words

Once there was a young girl
Shy, reserved and in love with words
Fascinated, enthralled by what it offered
Hoping more than anything to be heard

Feelings from the heart kept silent and dormant
Found solace in words that freed them
Hopes and dreams of youth and of age
Expressed, rooted rather than caged

Time passed by and life happened
Burdened, shackled and restrained
Words were buried, kept hidden away
Boxed in, sealed and left unopened

Seasons changed and gray hair abounding
Words called out again, unrelenting
Breathing life to embedded desires
Lighting up dreams that never expire
