Love, Light, Laughter

Looking back from where I sit,
     thinking about the past,
old friends, old loves, family that's gone
always thought those things would last.
My memory will shine a light
     on things that did occur,
sometimes that light will shine so bright
     sometimes it's just a blur.
So many things we'd laugh about
we'd laugh so hard we'd cry.
     Reminiscing brings the slightest smile
or a teardrop to my eye.
Momentos may get torn or lost
     keepsakes may fall apart,
but memories of times gone by
light the corners of my heart.
At the end of a day, at the end of a life
it won't be "things" we were after,
but the love that we gave, the light we
     shone, and always remember the
     laughter.

About this poem

As I get older I am starting to realize what is truly important in our lives. I think this poem is a reflection of that.
