King
KING
I look out through my mind’s eye
What do I see?
I see a reflection of myself looking back at me.
I see myself through my own eyes
I cannot deny.
No matter how hard I try.
The image of the man I present: strong, bold, and relentless is
what I see
But there is more to me.
I reflect a man that has endured hardship and pain
A man that has fought over the years of my incarceration
to stay sane.
A man that has prevailed where others have died,
A man who has learned to swallow his pride
But still I strive
To reflect a man that one can see
That regardless of my downfalls
It is okay to be me
You see,
I’ve come to respect and love the man I have become
For the good and the bad and the ugly I may have succumb
So see me for who I am not for what you want me to be.
But for what I have come to see
A man redeemed
A King . . .
