Not a Doll

Did you want a doll?
Someone to dress up, look pretty?
Eyes so dull, blankly following?
Too bad for you,
Your little soldier
Doesn’t follow orders.
Did you want a doll?
Someone you could take pride in,
But only once they earned it?
Too bad for you,
That nothing’s changed.
They’ve only gotten older.
Too bad for you,
That they’ve only gotten bolder.
Maybe they’re not meant to be molded.
Fitted to perfection.
They don’t follow orders well.
They don’t listen blankly.
They don’t believe quite like you.
But they’re not broken.
I am not a porcelain doll to be shattered.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because I was dealing with my own demons for a while. It helped me bleed the anger and sadness out.
