Performing Artists

Few achieve,
Becoming performing artists successfully.
Without acquiring,
Discipline, initiative and a desire.
Motivated.
By mathematics, attention to give it.
Diction and the correct use of language.
And English specifically.
Knowing how to write and interpret,
What is written then to follow directions.
With a mind to focus,
Upon what had been read after reading.

Whether a dancer, singer or one who acts,
On a stage to have it believed to see.
By a sitting audience prepared,
To scrutinize every movement made.
Regardless,
Who the performing artists may be.
Delivering their best.
With sweat, blood and often tears.
But mediocrity to accept,
From those who perform as artists?
Have no excuses for messing up.
Not when people have paid big bucks.
Wanting to get more,
Than blood, sweat and tears on a stage.
Before the curtain comes down.
And all the lights in an auditorium,
Shines bright to light up faces.
As some applaud medics applying,
Mouth to mouth resuscitation.
To those performers dedicated to reality!

'It's a tough business.
And nothing about it is easy at all!'

'Tell me about it!
Many have no idea,
What medics are call to do.
In such dramatic situations!'

'And inspiring performing artists,
Complain...
About how difficult cattle calls are.
To get themselves attention.
Or at least an anticipated show to know,
Some interest to them is given!'

'Yeah.
Especially the ones standing in line.
Passing that sandwich back and forth.
Pretending they hadn't had a bite to eat,
In months!'
